The Client
Edward worked in the oil industry, and he and Emma had lived abroad in the Middle East for 25 years. When Edward and Emma separated, Emma decided to return to the UK.
When her lawyers asked her to create a future budget estimate, she had no idea where to start, as she did not know the cost of anything in the UK.

The Challenge
We asked Emma to search Rightmove to find a property she could envisage living in. We also asked her to create a personal checklist of items she needed or regularly bought. We requested that she annotate each item with her preferred supplier or brand and the quantity or frequency of replacement so that we could research the costs for her.
The Solution
Relocating to the UK from abroad, especially on your own, can be a daunting task, and we wanted to give Emma a realistic picture of her finances so she could plan her new life accordingly. We created a comprehensive relocation budget which included all the household running costs as well as every personal and lifestyle cost Emma was likely to incur.
The Outcome
The divorce settled quicker than anticipated, saving Emma additional costs and anxiety. The added benefit for Emma was that she gained a good knowledge and understanding of the cost of living in the UK and felt confident she would have enough money to live on.
